Ride for HELP quiz night, 12 Feb
Friend of HELP Dave Thornton is cycling 3,000 km across the country as part of Tour Aotearoa, to raise funds for survivors of sexual abuse. As part of his fundraising efforts we will be having a quiz night at Parliament Banquet Hall on Wednesday 12 February, 6.30pm - 10.00pm.
You can choose to purchase individual tickets or a whole table (up to 8 people). If you do not have a ready made quiz team we can pair you up with some like-minded quizzers. Tickets include some lush nibbles. Drinks and meals will be available to purchase on the night.
Once registered you will receive a formal invitation from Parliament with arrival instructions. Please bring this with you on the night.
More about Dave.....
Dave had a rather significant birthday recently and whilst many of us might consider slowing down, Dave thought to himself “I should cycle 3,000 km across the country and raise money for my favourite charity!”
Tour Aotearoa is one of the world’s great bikepacking trips: stretching from Cape Reinga to Bluff it follows a combination of cycle trails, tracks, paths and lanes connected by the most enjoyable country roads available.
Dave has been a police officer for 31 years and has worked both in uniform and for CIB. He has worked closely with Wellington HELP for many years as police liaison and more recently as head of CIB in the Hutt Valley. Over the last few years his daughter and her friends have fundraised for Wellington HELP and now it’s Dave’s turn.
Dave is mainly a road cyclist so he has been struggling with the transition from road to trail. But never fear, the last two times Dave has been mountain biking he hasn’t even fallen off! Dave starts his journey on 20 February in Cape Reinga and we will be sharing his epic journey via facebook.
