Jenny O’Connor is originally from the East Coast and moved to Wellington in 2000. She has exhibited her work regularly in Wellington, Gisborne and Palmerston North over the last 15 years.
During that time she has worked across photographic genres including street photography, painting with light abstracts, and over the last 10 years her passion has been telling life stories through portraiture. The first of these was Tairawhiti Girls, followed by a project with her son Sean, called Nothing More Than This, exploring experiences of anxiety and depression. Her recent project, Visible 60 Women at 60 is a collection of 60 studio portraits of women who were 60 at the time their photograph was taken. The project became a book attracting international attention and a touring exhibition and stage show.
