We're delighted to announce that HELP has teamed up with The Good Registry.
The Good Registry is designed to make giving simple. It provides a platform for people who are celebrating special events to set up a gift registry and, instead of gifts, to ask for cash donations to a charity they’ve chosen.
The good people at The Good Registry can handle all of your incoming donations to HELP, as well as arranging your receipts and the administration around your cash donations to HELP.
So How Does It Work?
Here's the process:
A person having an event creates a registry and chooses HELP as the charity they want to give to
The person who has created the registry lets their friends, family and others know
Anyone who wants to gift visits the registry page and decides if and how much they would like to gift to HELP
The gifter makes their donation, can leave a message, and immediately receives an electronic donation receipt (which is eligible for a New Zealand tax credit)
The Good Registry keeps a publicly visible tally of how much has been donated, and then pass donations on to HELP.
One Person's Story: M Parkin
In her own words, here's why M Parkin decided to support HELP through The Good Registry.
Christmas 2017 I decided that I didn’t need nor want gifts. There was some discussion within the family, they liked the idea of giving, I on the other hand felt I just didn’t feel right about gifts anymore.
When we heard about the Good Registry we agreed it was a wonderful compromise of all our values. It was an easy site to use and we all did our Christmas shopping on Christmas eve, no bother at all.
Why did I choose Wellington HELP? A few years ago, I was involved in a project with an organisation that facilitates access of services to sexual abuse victims. I witnessed first-hand what goes on behind the scenes of an organisation who are supporting and helping people who have experienced horrific events in their life.
I recognised a unique skillset is required to supporting those who are vulnerable, and it left me wondering ‘who helps those that are helping others?’ After the project finished I was left with that question somewhat unanswered. I say ‘somewhat’ as I know there is a bit of support, but it’s not even close enough.
So, when I noticed that Wellington HELP was on the Good Registry, I didn’t have to think twice. I knew they needed support, they do amazing work and the people who help those at their most vulnerable need help too.
I hope our small contribution was of some benefit, and I also hope there are people like the Wellington HELP team around to continue to provide such a critical service for our community I wish team the absolute best and they get to see their vision of a Wellington free from sexual violence become a reality.
